Last week, Sloan became of the only freshman in 2013 to claim the SEC Gymnast of the Week honor. This is her second SEC Freshman of the Week award, as she claimed the first honor of the season.
Sloan upped her collegiate-best all-around total for the second consecutive week to claim her second all-around win as a Gator last Friday in No. 1 Florida’s win versus defending NCAA champion Alabama. Sloan’s total of 39.675 shares second among the nation’s top all-around performances of 2013 and it ranks as the nation’s top all-around total of last weekend’s competition.
Sloan also turned in a collegiate-best 9.95 to share the evening’s uneven bars title with teammate Mackenzie Caquatto. She also took second on beam (9.90) and shared third in vault (9.90). Her collegiate-best floor exercise mark of 9.925 helped the Gators equal the school-record of 49.65 on that event.
This season, Sloan owns seven event titles. She is No. 2 in all-around (39.55) and No. 8 in vault (9.895) in the latest national rankings. Sloan is a six-time (and current) member of the U.S. Senior National Team. She is the first World Championships’ all-around champion (2009) to compete as a collegian.
The Florida-Alabama meet airs on SUN Sports (Gainesville/Ocala Cox cable 48 or 1048) on Feb. 16 at 8:30 p.m.
Next up, Florida meets its third consecutive opponent which qualified for the 2012 NCAA Championships when it travels to Athens, Ga., to face No. 9 Georgia (5-4-1, 3-0-1 SEC) in front of a sold-out Stegeman Coliseum crowd. Meet time is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16. The Florida at Georgia meet airs Sunday, Feb. 24 at 9 a.m. on SUN Sports.
