Sunday February 10, 2013UF's Jonathon Crawford Receives USA Baseball International Performance Award
University of Florida junior right-hander Jonathon Crawford (Okeechobee, Fla.) was presented with USA Baseballís International Performance of the Year Award during the Gator menís basketball game against Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon at the Stephen C. OíConnell Center. Eric Campbell, USA Baseballís General Manager of National Teams, came down from Raleigh, N.C., for the presentation and was joined on the court by sixth-year Florida head coach Kevin OíSullivan.
As Team USA's starter in game one of the inaugural USA versus Cuba Series in Havana, Cuba, Crawford's outing set the tone for the 2012 Collegiate National Team season. The Okeechobee native went 6.1 innings, struck out six Cuban batters and picked up the win in the club's 4-3 victory at Estadio de Latinoamericana.
On the summer, Crawford led the team with 26.2 innings pitched. Along the way, he picked up two more wins for Team USA to finish the summer with a 3-0 record and a 2.02 earned run average. The International Performance of the Year Award was founded in 2009, and Crawford joins Keegan Thompson (2011), Chris Archer (2010), and Jameson Taillon (2009) as the awardís recipients.
Crawford will lead the No. 13 Gators into the 2013 campaign by making the start in Friday nightís season opener versus Duke at 7 p.m. at McKethan Stadium.
