BIRMINGHAM, Ala.

University of Florida All-American Lauren Embree (Marco Island, Fla.) was named the Southeastern Conference Womenís Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

 

Embree compiled a combined 4-0 singles and doubles record during the teamís season-opening week, helping the Gators (3-0) sweep all three opponents, including a pair of nationally-ranked foes.

 

In the win against No. 15 Baylor, Embree teamed with junior Sofie Oyen (Leopoldsburg, Belgium) and provided the clinching doubles-point victory which was the 100th doubles win of her career. Embree became 14th Gator to win 100 career doubles matches.† Her doubles winning percentage is ranked as the sixth best in program history; she is 100-18 all-time on the doubles court.

 

Her thrilling singles win against Baylorís No. 16 Ema Burgic was the 99th of her career and she improved to 99-14 in her career. Embreeís 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 1 position in the season-opener against South Florida gave UF a 3-0 lead in the team scoring.

 

Embree helped UF extend itís home winning streak to 110, which is the longest active home win streak of any NCAA Division I womenís team in any sport.

 

Embree and the top-ranked Gators return to action on Sun. Feb. 17, when the team travels to Durham, N.C., and plays third-ranked Duke at 1 p.m. The Florida then faces eighth-ranked North Carolina on Mon., Feb. 18 at 2 p.m.
