Thursday January 31, 2013Young Named to Capital One Academic All-District 4 First Team
University of Florida junior center Patric Young (Jacksonville, Fla.) was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District 4 First Team, CoSIDA announced today. The Academic All-District 4 First Team recognizes the top-student athletes from schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico, and South Carolina for their combined efforts athletically and in the classroom.
Young joins Jakob Gollon (Mercer), Mike Groselle (The Citadel), Adam Pegg (Stetson), and Levi Randolph (Alabama) on the first team. The junior center currently holds a 3.38 GPA in telecommunications.
This is not the first academic honor for Young. The Jacksonville native was named the 2012 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming the third Gator to do so. Lee Humphrey (2006 and 2007) and Ray Shipman (2010) were the two previous winners from UF.
Those who earned first-team Academic All-District honorees will all be placed on the ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America Team. The Academic All-America team will be selected in late February.
Florida will be back in action on Saturday, February 2 when they host No. 16 Ole Miss at the O’Connell Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
