McDonald, a third-round draft pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2007, started all 16 games of the regular season for the 49ers and totaled 38 tackles with 2.5 sacks. In the playoffs, he has started both games and recorded 9 tackles in helping San Francisco reach the Super Bowl.

Thompson, who signed as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens last summer, played in six games during the regular season and had 5 catches for 51 yards while also contributing on special teams. He has yet to see action during the postseason.

Florida has a former player on at least one Super Bowl roster for the 11th-straight year. With either McDonald or Thompson guaranteed to earn a Super Bowl ring, the winner will join Dallas Baker as the only two players in Florida history to win an SEC Championship, national championship and Super Bowl.
