Thursday January 24, 2013Florida Track & Field Prepares for Exceptional Field at Razorback Invitational

Gainesville, Fla.

The University of Florida track & field teams travel to Fayetteville this weekend for the Razorback Invitational, a meet that pits some of the nation’s top programs against one another at the site for this year’s SEC and NCAA Indoor Championships, the University of Arkansas.

The ranked teams joining the No. 3 Florida men in this weekend’s action are No. 1 Arkansas, No. 6 LSU, No. 11 Texas, No. 13 Arizona and No. 21 Florida State. For the women, No. 5 Arkansas, No. 6 LSU, No. 12 Arizona, No. 13 Texas, No. 16 Georgia, No. 17 Baylor and No. 23 Nebraska will compete alongside the No. 7 Gator women.

The Gators are looking to build upon the success of Florida’s first two meets of 2013, the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener and the Gator Invitational. In Birmingham, the Orange and Blue turned in 17 top-three finishes and six event titles. Junior Cory McGee (Pass Christian, Miss.) was selected as the SEC Co-Women’s Runner of the Week, recovering from a stumble to win the women’s 800 meters in 2:09.01 to rank fourth in the NCAA thus far.

In Gainesville last week, junior hurdler Eddie Lovett (West Palm Beach, Fla.) broke a 23-year-old school record in the men’s 55-meter hurdles, racing to a personal-best time of 7.10. The time is tops in the NCAA this year and converts to 7.64 in the 60-meter hurdles, putting him at second in NCAA qualifying.

The Gator throwers have been impressive in the opening meets of the season, as sophomore thrower Jayla Bostic (Wellington, Fla.) has improved upon her personal best in the women’s weight throw with marks of 18.85m/61-10.25 and 19.78m/64-10.75 in the first two weeks of the season.

Live results for the two-day Razorback Invitational can be found here and a schedule of Friday’s and Saturday’s events is available on ArkansasRazorbacks.com. Live streaming of the weekend is available for a fee on RazorVision.
