Wednesday January 23, 2013Florida Lacrosse set to host England National Team in Exhibition Thursday
Coming off a strong 2012 campaign, the University of Florida Lacrosse team is preparing for the 2013 season as it hosts the England National Team in an exhibition contest at Donald R. Dizney Stadium on Thursday. Opening draw is set for 6:30 p.m.
This is the second-straight year the Gators have hosted played the Brits in an exhibition game. Last season, the Gators came up victorious in a 17-2 win in their first ever international contest. England is currently on a week-long tour of Florida and will face off later this week against Team USA, Northwestern and Haudenosaunee at the Champions Challenge at the Wide World of Sports at Disney World. They will also face Syracuse and Jacksonville in other contest during their trip.
The Gators return all but one starter from a season ago, where they with an impressive 19-3 record, advancing all the way to the NCAA Final Four as the No. 1 seed in the tournament. They also captured their second-straight ALC regular-season championship going 5-0 in league play and picked up their first conference tournament championship in 2012. They became just the fourth program in their third season of play to reach the national semifinals and head coach Amanda O’Leary became the third person to both coach and play in the final four.
Returning players highlighting the Gators’ roster includes six preseason All-Americans, senior midfielder Brittany Dashiell (Bel Air, Md.), senior attack Kitty Cullen (Rockville, Md.), senior goalie Mikey Meagher (Liverpool, N.Y.), senior defender Sam Farrell (Millersville, Md.), senior defender Jamie Reeg (Atlantis, Fla.) and sophomore midfield Shannon Gilroy (Northport, N.Y). Dashiell returns as the first UF player to be a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, which honors the nation’s top collegiate lacrosse player, and the Honda Sports Award. IWLCA, SynapseSports.com and WomensLax.com Goalie of the Year Meagher returns to defend the net and ALC Rookie of the Year midfielder Nora Barry (Marcellus, N.Y.) returns for her sophomore campaign for the Gators.

Willertz (Severn, Md.) – to experience a game-time atmosphere at Dizney
