Monday January 21, 2013Lochte and Dwyer Conclude Competition at Austin Grand Prix
Former Gators Ryan Lochte and Conor Dwyer competed at the Austin Grand Prix that ran from January 18-20 in Austin, Texas. Lochte and Dwyer both are still training in Gainesville, Fla. with the Gator Swim Club. The Austin Grand Prix is the second stop among the Arena Grand Prix Series
Both former Gators had strong performances over the three day meet. Lochte continued his success this year with a huge win in the 200 IM. He touched first in a time of 2:00.98, three seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Dwyer also competed in the 200 IM, finishing third in a time of 2:03.09.
Along with his win, Lochte had a third place finish in the 200 free clocking in at 1:50.19. He added a fourth place finish in the 100 fly (54.14), a sixth place finish in the 100 breast (1:04.83) and a ninth place finish in the 100 free (51.09). Dwyer competed in two other events along with the 200 IM. He finished fourth in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.72 and was 13th in the 100 free clocking in at 51.09.
The next stop in the Grand Prix series will be in Orlando, Fla. February 14-16. The Arena Grand Prix Series serves as an opportunity for swimmers to race against some of the best competition in the country as they continue their preparation for the 2013 Phillips 66 National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., World University Games in Kazan, Russia and the FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain.
