Thursday January 17, 2013Quick Thoughts From Zack Powers Entering 2013 Season
With the start of team practice close to a week away and the Gators’ season opener on Feb. 15, redshirt sophomore infielder Zack Powers (Seffner, Fla.) answered a few questions about the 2013 season.
After being sidelined while recovering from a shoulder injury last year, how ready are you for the upcoming season?
“I’m extremely ready for the season. Being out last season made me realize how much I missed playing and how ready I am to be back on the field with my teammates.”
What do you see as the difference between last year’s team and what will be seen on opening night against Duke?
“We don’t have as many big-name guys as last year and there are a lot of new faces. Many of them are ready for their opportunity to step up.”
Besides McKethan Stadium, where do you enjoy playing the most?
“Mississippi State – I like the stadium (Dudy Noble Field, Polk-Dement Stadium) and having a lot of their fans beyond the outfield fence. The ‘party atmosphere’ makes for a great environment.”
How have you developed since Gator fans last watched you play during the 2011 season, when you were named to the SEC’s All-Freshman Team?
“The game has slowed down a lot more for me and I am a more mature player. Coming in as a freshman, everything is new and each weekend brought something that I had not encountered before – staying in hotels, long travel, etc.”
What kind of advice can you offer the newcomers after being out last year?
“Listen to what others have to say, don’t try to do too much. It’s important to stay within yourself.”
