The Gators are coming off an impressive showing at the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener last Saturday, as the Orange and Blue turned in 17 top-three finishes and six event titles. At the meet, junior Cory McGee (Pass Christian, Miss.) ran the 800 meters indoors and won the event in 2:09.01, which is good for 11th all-time and first in the NCAA this season. McGee’s time ranks 15th in the world indoors this season.
The teams competing on Thursday are Florida, FIU, Miami (FL), Florida A&M, Southern Mississippi, UNF, Jacksonville, Bethune-Cookman, Warner, Embry-Riddle, Webber, FSU, Florida Atlantic, UCF, Savannah State and Trinity.
Starting things off for the Orange and Blue on Thursday is sophomore thrower David Levin (Altamonte Springs, Fla.), who improved upon his personal best in the men’s weight throw last weekend with his toss of 18.44m/60-6. Levin will be joined by UCSB transfer Kyle Strawn (Temecula, Calif.), who competed in his first meet as a Gator last weekend, and senior David Triassi (Jacksonville, Fla.), who returned to the Gators for his final year of eligibility after competing at his first NCAA East Preliminary Round last May as a junior.
Fellow sophomore Jayla Bostic (Wellington, Fla.) also had a career day last Saturday, throwing a personal-best 18.85m/61-10.25 and will compete on Thursday at the O’Dome.
SEC champion in the women’s high jump outdoors last season, Taylor Burke (Medina, Ohio) will compete in that event and will be joined by fellow Gators Lorraine Graham (Springdale, Md.) and Alexis Muniz (Coconut Creek, Fla.) on Thursday.
Sophomore Marquis Dendy (Middletown, Del.), who won the men’s long jump at the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener, will participate in the men’s triple jump on Thursday as the lone Gator in the event, beginning competition at 6 p.m. ET.
Junior Eddie Lovett (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and freshman Moriel Pitt (West Palm Beach, Fla.), who each won their respective sections of the men’s 60-meter hurdles last weekend, will both compete in the men’s 55-meter hurdles on Thursday.
Florida’s three female freshman sprinters Destinee Gause (Reynoldsburg, Ohio), Kyra Jefferson (Detroit, Mich.) and Shayla Sanders (Pompano Beach, Fla.) will all race in the women’s 55 meters and 200 meters on Thursday, looking to continue last weekend’s success.
