In her first event as a Gator, Sloan stuck her vault for a 9.925. She shared the Florida-Ball State vault title with senior All-American Ashanée Dickerson. The performance also marked another first. Sloan is the first World Championships’ all-around champion (she claimed the 2009 title) to compete as a collegian.

She also took third on beam and fourth on bars with marks of 9.80. The 9.925 equals the highest vault mark posted by a Gator in a season opener (set by Dickerson in 2011 and matched in 2013) and Sloan is the first freshman to open her career with a vault mark of 9.925.

Sloan is a six-time (and current) member of the U.S. Senior National Team. She was the youngest member of the U.S.’s silver medal team at the 2008 Olympics. She also was part of U.S. teams at the 2009 and 2010 World Championships.

Next up, No. 3 Florida opens SEC competition at No. 8 LSU on Friday. Meet time is set for 8 p.m. ET at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. GatorVision subscribers can watch the live stream of the meet as part of their package. The meet airs tape-delayed on SUN Sports Jan. 19 at 5 p.m.
