Thursday December 20, 2012Boynton and Wilbekin Named to Bob Cousy Award Watch List
Florida senior guard Kenny Boynton (Pompano Beach, Fla.) and junior guard Scottie Wilbekin (Gainesville, Fla.) were both named to the watch list of candidates for the 2013 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today.
Boynton and Wilbekin were two of the 85 candidates to be nominated for the 2013 Bob Cousy Award.
The Pompano Beach, Fla. native currently is second on the team in scoring and assists, averaging 12.6 points per game and 2.8 assists per contest. Boynton is fifth on UF’s all-time scoring list and fourth in three-pointers made. In the team’s latest outing, he became the fifth Gator to eclipse the 1,700-point mark.
Wilbekin is the team’s leader in assists, averaging 4.1 assists per game. The junior guard is currently fifth in the SEC in assists per game. He is also scoring 8.3 points per game, which is up nearly six points from his first two years’ average.
The watch list will be narrowed down to a final 20 candidates around January 1, final 10 near February 1, and the final five by March 1. A premier selection committee made up of media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers will review the final five candidates. The winner of the 2013 Bob Cousy Award will be presented the award at the NCAA Final Four in Atlanta.
