Thursday December 13, 2012Lochte and Dwyer Win Relay Gold Again

Gainesville, Fla.

On the second day of competition at the 2012 FINA World Short Course Championship, Ryan Lochte and Conor Dwyer combined to win another gold medal as part of Team USA’s 800 free relay. Lochte and Dwyer both still train in Gainesville, Fla.

Lochte and Dwyer teamed up with Michael Klueh and Matthew McLean to win the event in a time of 6:51.40. Lochte swam the lead-off leg in a time of 1:41.17 to just miss an American record in his 200 free split. Dwyer dove in next and held the lead for the Americans that they would not relinquish.

For Lochte, it was his third gold medal of the championships. Earlier in the evening he won bronze in the men’s 100m fly, finishing in a time of 49.59. It was Dwyer’s second medal ever at a World Championship, and first gold.

Hilda Luthersdottir (Iceland) swam in the prelims of the 100m individual medley, where she finished 22nd with a time of 1:01.85.

Day three of the FINA World Short Course Championships will begin with prelims at 3 a.m. ET and finals take place at 12 p.m. ET. For the complete meet information, including TV schedule click here.
