Monday December 3, 2012Seven Gators Named to AP All-SEC Teams

Gainesville, Fla.

Seven Gators have picked up AP All-SEC honors, including six first-team selections, announced by the organization on Monday.

Senior running back Mike Gillislee (DeLand), redshirt senior kicker Caleb Sturgis (St. Augustine) and redshirt junior Jordan Reed (New London, Conn.) highlight first-team offense selections.  Junior defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa.), junior defensive back Matt Elam (Palm Beach Gardens) and sophomore punter Kyle Christy (Brownsburg, Ind.) wrapped up first-team defensive honors as sophomore defensive back Marcus Roberson (Ft. Lauderdale) rounded out the Gators selections, earning a spot on the defense second-team.

Sturgis is the lone Gator repeat on the list, as he also garnered first-team honors in 2011.

The Gators compiled an 11-1 regular season record and a 7-1 mark in SEC play this season.  They will make their 22nd-straight bowl appearance in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2 in New Orleans.  UF has claimed a school-record four-consecutive bowls and will be making its eighth-consecutive January Bowl appearance, the longest active streak in the nation. In addition, the Gators will be appearing in a BCS Bowl for the seventh time, tops in the SEC and tied for the third-best total nationally.

Florida’s total of five BCS Bowl wins is tied for the top total in the nation and with a victory it will have the top total in the nation in all-time BCS wins.
