Tuesday November 27, 2012Florida Men's Golf Signs Two for 2013-14
The University of Florida men’s golf team has signed two student-athletes, Ryan Orr (Belleair, Fla.) and Victor Tarnstrom (Stockholm, Sweden), who will compete for the Gators in the 2013-14 season, head coach Buddy Alexander announced today.
“We are very excited to have both of these young men join the program,” Alexander said.
Orr comes to Gainesville from nearby-Clearwater Central Catholic. As a member of the Marauders, he won the 2011 Class 1A Region 5 Tournament and was named the 2011 Pinellas County Boys’ Golfer of the Year by the Tampa Bay Times. Orr had an exceptional summer, earning an invite to the USGA Junior Amateur Championship after winning the Lake Wales qualifier in June. He also won the AJGA’s Florida Junior Championship and tied for third place at the FSGA’s Junior Championships.
“Ryan Orr is one of the best prospects from the state of Florida,” Alexander stated. “He has had a lot of success on the state level. He is a real sleeper that should play a great deal of golf here at the University of Florida”
Tarnstrom, the fifth-ranked amateur in Sweden, will make the trip across the Atlantic to join the Gators in 2013. The Stockholm native has been a member of the Swedish national team and Junior Ryder Cup Team. This past July, he helped the Swedish national team to the 2012 European Boys’ Team Championship. Tarnstrom took home medalist honors after recording a 137 (-3) for the two rounds of stroke play. At the 2012 Junior Ryder Cup in Olympia Fields, Ill., he won his foursome match with partner Renato Paratore of Italy.
“Victor Tarnstrom has had tremendous success in international play,” Alexander said. “We expect him to have an immediate impact on the program.”
