Monday November 5, 2012Gators Wrap Up Play at 2012 USTA Clay Court Invitational at Disney
Four members of the Florida men’s tennis team completed play on Sunday at the 2012 USTA Clay Court Invitational at Disney, hosted by Florida State. The event was held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.
Redshirt freshman Thomas Proisy (Saint Nom La Breteche, France) was the lone Gator to win on Sunday, beating Penn State’s Roman Trkulja, 7-5, 6-1.
Senior Billy Federhofer (North Miami) lost to Georgia Tech’s Juan Melian, 6-4, 6-4. Redshirt freshman Gordon Watson (Naples) fell to Penn State’s Tomas Hanzlik, 6-2, 2-6, 10-1, and true freshman Luke Johnson (Leeds, England) lost to USTA junior Ronnie Schneider, 6-2, 6-0.
Several Gators will be in action later this week in their final events of the fall season. Junior Florent Diep (Paris, France) heads to Flushing, N.Y., to participate in the 2012 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships after he won the title at the Southeast Regional Championships in late October.
Beginning on Friday, junior Mike Alford (Tampa, Fla.), senior Bob van Overbeek (Boca Raton, Fla.), Federhofer and Watson will be playing in the 2012 Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic in Bradenton.
