Gainesville, FL

Florida used a 15-hit offensive attack to defeat the Florida Alumni team 15-4 in the annual Gator Baseball Alumni exhibition game Saturday at McKethan Stadium. Over 50 alumni players attended the game including former All Americans Perry McGriff and Josh Fogg.

Florida took command early with a five run rally in the third inning ignited by two consecutive bunts by Kevin Estrada and Aaron Davidson. Pat Osborn drove both Estrada and Davidson home on a single. After two walks, Ryan Shealy drove in a run on a single while Ben Harrison (single) and Brian Rose (groundout) each followed with RBIs to give the Gators a 6-1 lead.

Florida added a run in the fourth on Shealy’s RBI single and three more in the sixth on Jason Dill’s RBI single and Shealy’s two-RBI home run to leftfield. Freshman Matt Maley hit a two run home run in the seventh to give the Gators a 12-3 lead.

On the day, Shealy led the Gators with a 3-5 four RBI performance while Osborn went 3-5 for two RBI and Dill and Harrison each finished with two hits apiece.

Standouts for the Gator Alumni team included Chris Chism who ripped a two-run home run to right field, former Gator All America Josh Fogg, who pitched a 1-2-3 first inning along with David Ross and Ronnie Sowell who each collected two hits.

Florida freshman Scot Drucker earned the victory on the mound after pitching the first 3 2/3 innings. He struck out four batters and allowed three earned runs. Two of those runs came on Chism’s two-run home run in the fourth.

Florida pitcher Eddie Rojas amused the crowd with his seventh inning at bat featuring impersonations of several different Major League players on each pitch. He also shut down the Alumni offense as he struck out four batters, allowed no runs on three hits in 3 1/3 innings on the mound.

Florida opens its season next weekend as the Gators host Miami (1-1) at McKethan Stadium. Game times are 1 p.m. on Saturday and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
