Sophomore punter Kyle Christy (Brownsburg, Ind.) has been named a candidate for the Ray Guy Award, announced by the Augusta Sports Council on Friday.
Christy is one of 69 candidates up for the award, which honors the top collegiate punter. This season for the Orange and Blue, Christy has 36 punts for 1,726 yards with nation-leading 47.9 average. The Brownsburg, Ind. native had a career performance against South Carolina, where he set the UF single-game record with a 54.3 punt average in the game, the second-best single-season average this year, on seven punts for 380 yards. He holds a season-long punt of 62 yards against the Gamecocks and three 60-plus yard punts in his career.
The list will be narrowed to ten semi-finalists to be announced on November 9. Following the semi-finalists announcement, a national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, coaches, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the top three finalists, who will be identified on November 19. The voting body will then cast ballots to select the winner. The presentation of the Ray Guy Award will be featured on The Home Depot College Football Awards live on Thursday, December 6 at 7:30 pm ET on ESPN.
