Gainesville, Fla.

The University of Florida men’s swimming and diving team topped the first Division I men’s team ranking, announced Wednesday by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. The Gators were a unanimous pick for the No. 1 spot.

Florida is one of eight SEC teams that are ranked in the top-25 in the first poll of the 2012-13 season. Last season’s SEC Champion, Auburn (2-0) is ranked No. 6 and Georgia (1-0) is also in the top-10 tied at No. 9. South Carolina (1-1) comes in at No. 12, followed by Alabama (1-1) at No. 20, Texas A&M (0-2) at No. 21, LSU (1-1) at No. 22 and Tennessee (2-1) at No. 24.

The men’s only meet thus far was the All-Florida Invitational, where the Gators won handily with 1,273 points over the three day meet. The meet also featured the No. 15 Seminoles, who finished second with 919 points.

Of the seven dual meets remaining on Florida’s schedule, six of them will be against teams ranked in the top-25, No. 9 Georgia (Oct. 25), No. 12 South Carolina (Oct. 26), No. 21 Texas A&M (Nov. 2), No. 15 Florida State (Nov. 15), No. 6 Auburn (Jan. 26) and No. 22 Tennessee (Feb. 1).

Florida will up their dual meet season this week as they travel to Athens, Ga. on Thursday to face No. 9 Georgia and will quickly turn around to face No. 12 South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. on Friday.
