Tuesday October 23, 2012Men's Golf Finishes in Sixth Place in Final Event of the Fall Season

Windermere, Fla.

The University of Florida men’s golf team wrapped up its fall season with a sixth-place finish at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla. on October 23. As a team, the Gators shot an 886 (+22) for the three-round tournament.

“It was a disappointing way to end a great fall season,” said head coach Buddy Alexander. “It is a little disappointing after such a great semester.”

Senior T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.) recorded the best score for the Gators on the final day of competition. Vogel was four-over par after the first five holes and rebounded with five birdies against three bogeys over the final 13 holes. He finished the final round in 74 strokes (+2) to propel him into a tie for seventh place. Vogel has finished in the top-10 in every tournament this season.

Classmate Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) finished the tournament one stroke behind Vogel, recording a 219 (+3) for the event. McCumber finished in a tie for ninth place, his third top-10 finish of the year. The senior shot a 77 (+5) on the final day.

Sophomore J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) tallied a 75 (+3) for the third round of play. Tomlinson finished the tournament in 221 strokes (+5), good enough for a tie for 21st place.

Freshman A.J. Crouch (Jacksonville, Fla.) and senior Tommy Mou (Bradenton, Fla.) rounded out the UF lineup. Crouch posted his best round of the tournament with a 77 (+5) for the final round, while Mou finished his round in 80 strokes (+8).

“Hopefully, this will give our team the motivation to work hard in the offseason to get ready for the spring,” Alexander stated.

With the conclusion of the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational, the University of Florida has completed its fall season. The Gators will be back in action in February when they open their spring season with their home tournament, the Gator Invitational.
