Thursday October 18, 2012Six Gators Set to Participate in 2012 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships
Six members of the Florida mens tennis team will travel to Tallahassee this weekend for the 2012 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by Florida State University. Five players will play in the main draw of the singles competition while the Gators will have three doubles pairs in the doubles draw.
Senior Bob van Overbeek (Boca Raton) is the top seed in the singles draw of 64 players, while sophomore Mike Alford (Tampa) is the fourth overall seed. Junior Florent Diep (Paris, France) is the sixth-seeded player in the draw. Senior Billy Federhofer (North Miami) and freshman Luke Johnson (Leeds, England) will also compete in singles.
Alford and Diep will team together in doubles as the fourth-seeded pair in the 32-team draw. Johnson and van Overbeek will play together while Federhofer is joined by freshman Gordon Watson (Naples).
Play is scheduled to begin on Friday at 9 a.m. with first round singles action, followed by doubles play.

Tournament Format Notes:
· In doubles competition, matches will consist of a pro set with a tiebreak at 8-8

· In singles consolation, a "match tiebreak" will be played in lieu of a third set
