Wednesday October 17, 2012ESPN's College GameDay To Be Held In Front Of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium

Gainesville, Fla.

ESPN announced on Wednesday that its College GameDay show will emanate from the grass outside the North End Zone of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium this weekend, the site of the Florida-South Carolina game in The Swamp. The No. 3/4 Gators (6-0/5-0 SEC) and the No. 9/8 Gamecocks (6-1/4-1 SEC) will meet at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.

Former Gator swimmer Ryan Lochte (2002-06), who brought home five medals from the 2012 Olympic Games in London, will be the celebrity guest picker on College GameDay. He captured gold medals in the 400m IM and the 4x200m Free Relay, won silver in the 4x100m Free Relay and 200IM and earned bronze in the 200m Backstroke. The five medals for Lochte increased his career Olympic medal haul to 11, a total that tied him for second all-time with Mark Spitz for the most medals won by a male swimmer behind Michael Phelps. Lochte’s five medals in one Olympic Games tied a Gator record for the most won in a single Olympiad. Dara Torres captured five swimming medals in Sydney in 2000, winning two gold and three bronze medals.

Florida will be making its 35th appearance on GameDay, a figure that leads the nation. This will be the program's first appearance in Gainesville since Nov. 28, 2009, a 37-10 Florida victory over Florida State. UF has already appeared twice on the program this season in consecutive weeks, a 20-17 win over Texas A&M in College Station on Sept. 8 and a 37-20 victory over No. 23 Tennessee on Sept. 15 in Knoxville. The Gators’ three times this fall featured in the on-site game is their most since the 2002 regular season, when they appeared on Sept. 7 hosting Miami (Fla.), Sept. 21 at Tennessee and Nov. 2 in Jacksonville against Georgia.

Since 1993, College GameDay has been television's definitive and comprehensive college football studio show and has traveled most weeks on college Saturdays to the day's big game and has been met by large and enthusiastic crowds. Hosted by Chris Fowler, GameDay will once again feature Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and David Pollack during the 10 a.m. – noon hours on ESPN. Samantha Steele joins the first hour on ESPNU with Pollack, and will also contribute reports, interviews and features throughout the final two hours with reporter Tom Rinaldi. The show covers all college football angles, issues and game previews.
