Tuesday October 16, 2012Countdown to Kickoff: Florida vs. South Carolina Game Notes
No. 3/4 Florida (6-0, 5-0 SEC) returns to The Swamp to face No. 9/8 South Carolina (6-1, 4-1 SEC) on Saturday afternoon. For the sixth time this season, UF will play in front of a nationally-televised audience, this time with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on CBS.
Florida will be making its 35th appearance on ESPNís College GameDay, a figure that leads the nation. This will be the programís first appearance in Gainesville since Nov. 28, 2009, a 37-10 Florida victory over Florida State.
UF has already appeared twice on the program this season in consecutive weeks, a 20-17 win over Texas A&M in College Station on Sept. 8 and a 37-20 victory over No. 23 Tennessee on Sept. 15 in Knoxville.
The Gators beat Vanderbilt for the 22nd-consecutive time last weekend, winning 31-17. Jeff Driskel rushed for 177 yards, the most in school history by a Florida quarterback, and scored three touchdowns.
South Carolina dropped its first game of the season last weekend, losing 23-21 at No. 9 LSU.
For the first time in the series, both teams are ranked in the Top 10. This will be the fifth time in the series that both teams are ranked in the Top 25, with UF holding a 3-1 record in the previous four meetings.
In addition, this is the highest-ranked South Carolina-team Florida has ever faced. South Carolina was ranked No. 14 in 2001 when the Steve Spurrier-coached Gators defeated the Gamecocks, 54-17.
Florida leads the all-time series against the Gamecocks, 23-6-3, and has a 12-1 record in Gainesville. Florida is 17-3 against South Carolina since the Gamecocks started playing in the SEC in 1992.
In 32 meetings, Florida has never lost three times in a row to South Carolina. The Gamecocks have won the last two meetings, including a 17-12 win last year in Columbia. In 2010, South Carolina beat Florida, 36-14, marking the first time that the Gamecocks beat the Gators in The Swamp.
