Sofie Oyen (pictured) and Danielle Collins advanced to the third round.

Florida freshman Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and junior Sofie Oyen (Leopoldsburg, Belgium) both won two rounds in the qualifying draw of the 2012 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships that began Tuesday at the Riviera Tennis Club.

Collins defeated Virginia’s No. 77 Li Xi, 6-4, 6-0, before earning a second-round victory against Georgia’s No. 62 Kate Fuller, 6-4, 6-4, and advancing to the third and final round of the event, where all third-round winners earn a spot in the main draw of the national event.

Oyen, ranked No. 32 in the country and the ninth-seed at the tournament, posted a 6-2, 6-1 win against Texas Tech’s No. 76-ranked Samantha Adams and a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 decision over Pepperdine’s No. 74-ranked Alejandra Granillo to reach the third round.

“It was a very good day for Danielle and Sofie,” UF associate head coach Dave Balogh said. “There were in some tight spots and during their matches and really stepped up their games at the end.”

Both aim to join teammate and senior All-American Lauren Embree (Marco Island, Fla.) in the main draw, held Oct. 4-7 at the Riviera Tennis Club, where Embree will play singles and doubles, partnering with Collins.

Florida’s Caroline Hitimana lost her opening round match to No. 55-ranked Caroline Rohde-Moe of Ole Miss, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0, while Olivia Janowicz fell to Utah’s Sarah Pham, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7) and Alexandra Cercone dropped a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 decision to Texas A&M’s No. 38-ranked Nazari Urbina.

“Unfortunately, Alexandra and Olivia had some leads in the third set but we couldn’t capitalize,” Balogh shared. “Hopefully, we can get Danielle and Sofie to join Lauren in the main draw tomorrow. They’ve been very focused and it will be exciting and tough tennis.”

Hitimana was scheduled to play Duke’s No. 35-ranked Hanna Mar in first round consolation action and that result had not been completed at the time of this release.

Cercone and Oyen began Tuesday’s action the doubles court, where the Gator pair lost to Illinois’ Melissa Kopinski and Rachael White, 8-6
