The first round of the 2012 WNBA playoff’s tipped-off Thursday night and a couple of Gator greats were in the middle of the action.

The Los Angeles Sparks took care of business against the San Antonio Silver Stars 93-86 in game one of the Western Conference semifinals. Gator All-American DeLisha Milton-Jones started and collected five points with two offensive rebound while playing 18 minutes during a game that had 18 lead changes and saw a tie score 11 times.

Milton-Jones averaged 10.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game during the 2012 regular season, when she started all 34 games.

Carol Ross, Florida’s winningest coach in school history at 247-121, and her Sparks held the Silver Stars to just 11 free throw attempts, as they rallied in the fourth period to secure Ross’ first playoff win as the Spark’s head coach. The Sparks have now won five consecutive games for the first time since July.

The former player-coach duo at Florida, Milton-Jones and Ross look to continue their success in Los Angeles as the Sparks take on the Silver Stars again on Saturday at 3 p.m. in San Antonio at Freeman Coliseum.

Gator great Aneika Henry and the Atlanta Dream face off against the Indiana Fever tonight at 7 p.m. for game one of the Eastern Conference playoff series. Atlanta sits at a 19-15 record, recalling that their season-opening loss came on the road at Indiana. The Dream, who eliminated the Fever from the playoffs in 2011, aim for their third straight championship-series appearance.
