Tuesday September 25, 2012Florida Baseball Recruiting Class Ranked No. 7 By Collegiate Baseball

Tucson, Ariz.

Collegiate Baseball newspaper's 30th annual rundown of NCAA Division I baseball recruiting classes was released on Tuesday, with Florida's 2012 recruiting class named the seventh-best in America by the publication. The Gators' 11 recruits include 10 freshmen and one transfer. UF's ranking for sixth-year head coach Kevin O’Sullivan marks its fourth-consecutive time in the top 8 on the publication's list, after being No. 1 in 2009, No. 5 in 2010 and No. 8 in 2011.

"This ranking is a credit to the players and how hard each of them worked during their high school careers and it also recognizes the outstanding effort of our coaching staff during the recruiting process,” said O’Sullivan. “These players have performed at a high level and we are counting on them contributing right away for us. The state of Florida in particular possessed a wealth of talent and we were fortunate to have many of these student-athletes come to the University of Florida."

Last season, the Gators were 47-20 overall and advanced to the NCAA College World Series for the third-straight campaign for the first time. UF also reached the 40-win plateau for the 21st time in school history and the fourth-straight year. Florida finished among the top 8 within each of the collegiate baseball polls: No. 3 in Baseball America, No. 6 in both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and USA Today/ESPN and No. 7 in Collegiate Baseball. The squad compiled a 3.04 grade point average last spring and will be welcoming its fourth-consecutive highly-touted recruiting class to campus.

Florida is scheduled to begin fall practice on Sunday, Oct. 7, at McKethan Stadium and will open its 2013 campaign against Duke on Feb. 15 in Gainesville.
