Tuesday September 18, 2012Countdown to Kickoff: Florida vs. Kentucky Game Notes
After back-to-back thrilling road wins to open SEC play, the No. 14 and undefeated Gators are finally coming home.
Florida (3-0, 2-0 SEC) returns to the Swamp for the first time since the season-opener this Saturday when the Gators host Kentucky (1-2, 0-0 SEC), playing its SEC opener.
The Gators are coming off a breakout offensive performance at Tennessee last weekend. Florida totaled 555 yards of offense (8.8 per play) in Knoxville, the most yards UF has amassed in a conference game since Nov. 3, 2001 against Vanderbilt (571 yards). The 555 total yards were the third-most ever allowed by the Vols at Neyland Stadium and the most since Washington State had 618 yards in 1988.
Kentucky is coming off a 32-31 overtime loss at home vs. Western Kentucky last weekend. The Wildcats dropped their season opener at Louisville and picked up a win at home against Kent State on September 8.
Florida currently owns a 25-game win-streak against Kentucky. It marks the longest active win-streak in the nation in a current series against a major conference opponent. The last win for Kentucky came in 1986 (10-3 in Lexington).
The Gators will continue to look for growth and progress from sophomore quarterback Jeff Driskel who combined for 300 yards of total offense last week and was named the SECís Offensive Player of the Week. On the ground Mike Gillislee continues to be a workhorse and leads the SEC in rushing with 346 yards to go along with four touchdowns.
