Monday September 10, 2012Coach Paul Spangler Discussed Saturday's Mountain Dew Invitational With Media Monday
University of Florida assistant track coach Paul Spangler, who oversees the Gator cross country programs, talked with the media as part of UF’s All Sports Press Conference on Monday.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams play host to host the 24th Annual Mountain Dew Invitational at UF’s Mark Bostick Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 15. This is the Gator’s ONLY home race of the year. Collegiate races kick off at 7:55 a.m. with the men’s 8K, while the women’s college 5K will begin at 8:30 a.m. Varsity and junior varsity boys and girls races will follow.
Both squads opened the 2012 season with team victories at the Western Carolina Invitational August 31, when senior Josh Izewski and freshman Julie Macedo picked up individual wins. Macedo became the first freshman since Olympian and former Florida distance runner Genevieve LaCaze (2008) to win her first race as a Gator. For her performance, Macedo was named last week’s SEC Women’s Runner of the Week. For Izewski, the win marked just his second event victory in a Florida uniform. A total of 11 Gators ran collegiate-best times at the meet.
