New Mexico is the sixth of Florida’s 10 season opening matches versus teams which advanced to the NCAA field of 64 in 2011. New Mexico earned the Mountain West Conference’s bid after claiming both the 2011 MWC regular-season and tournament titles.

Florida split in a pair of matches versus instate rivals last weekend. The Gators dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision at No. 1 Florida State Friday in front of the Seminoles’ second-largest crowd ever of 2,243 at the Florida State Soccer Complex. A header off a long throw-in scored the Seminoles’ goal in the 10th minute when Kristin Grubka flicked the ball back to the far post. The Gators had several dangerous chances, including an equalizer goal by sophomore Havana Solaun waved off with an offsides call early in the second half.

Solaun scored a pair of goals and senior McKenzie Barney added the middle goal in Florida’s 3-0 win versus Florida International Sunday in front of 1,921 at the James G. Pressly Stadium. The goals were the first of the season for both Gators and the double-goal match was the second of Solaun’s young collegiate career, as she also turned in two at Mississippi as a freshman.

Sunday’s match concludes a seven-match road stretch for New Mexico. The Lobos will log more than 7,500 miles during this road stint which started with an Aug. 19 trip to Texas Tech. The TTU trip started a three-match road losing streak (0-2 at TTU, 0-1 versus Iowa State and 0-2 versus Nebraska at Husker Classic). The Lobos bounced back with a pair of wins last weekend at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational, defeating SMU 4-1 and taking a 2-1 2OT victory versus tournament host Texas. The Lobos face a pair of Southeastern Conference teams on this road trip, as they defeated Georgia 2-0 in Athens Friday evening. Senior Jordan Craig is the 2012 Lobo leader with three goals and six points. She is the reigning Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals last weekend in Austin, including the golden goal at Texas.

Live streaming video of Sunday’s match is available via GatorVision. The match can also be heard on ESPN 850/900, by simulcast on Cox Channel 946 (Gainesville/Ocala) or on with Adam Schick and Matthew Stubbington calling the action.
