Gainesville, Fla.

Erika Tymrak is the Disney Soccer/NSCAA Players of the Week after her golden goal versus No. 2 Duke.

Add another award for University of Florida senior All-American Erika Tymrak (Bradenton, Fla.) after her golden goal performance last Sunday. Today she was named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA Player of the Week by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The NSCAA names a national player of the week each week of the collegiate season and Indiana sophomore Eriq Zavaleta is the male recipient of the honor.

Earlier this week, Tymrak was named Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week and also picked up the Primetime Player and Soccer America Player of the Week awards. The last Gator to claim the NSCAA Player of the Week was McKenzie Barney after Florida’s overtime win at Florida State in 2010.

Last weekend, the Gators traveled to Chapel Hill, N.C., to play a pair of top-15 teams in the Nike Carolina Classic. Florida played then No. 14 North Carolina to a scoreless tie on Friday and then upset then No. 2 Duke 3-2 OT on Sunday. Tymrak played a part in two of Florida’s three goals in Sunday’s win. With the score 2-1 Duke, Tymrak received a short corner and moved the ball along the end line. Seeing plenty of bodies in the box, she sent in a cross hoping to get a favorable bounce. The ball did take a bounce in the Gators’ favor, deflecting off the back of a DU defender to score as an own goal.

In the 93rd minute, Tymrak was on the final end of a give-and-go play with Barney. Tymrak brought the ball down to the top of the box and sent it to Barney located on her right. Barney sent the ball back to Tymrak who had continued her run into the box and she scored the golden goal in the lower left corner.

Sunday’s win was the first victory versus the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) No. 2 team since the 1998 NCAA College Cup semifinal round.

No. 22 Florida finishes its three-match road stretch versus top-15 teams this Friday when it travels to No. 1 Florida State (2-0, 0-0 ACC). Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Seminole Soccer Complex and the match will be available on ESPN3. The match can also be heard on ESPN 850/900, by simulcast on Cox Channel 946 (Gainesville/Ocala) or on with Adam Schick and Matthew Stubbington calling the action.
