Her golden goal versus No. 2 Duke makes Florida’s All-American senior Erika Tymrak (Bradenton, Fla.) the Southeastern Conference Offensive Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.

SEC Players of the Week – 8/27/12

Offensive – Erika Tymrak, Florida

Defensive – Kelly McCormick, Mississippi

Freshman – Coryn Bajemas, South Carolina

She played a part in two of Florida’s three goals in Sunday’s 3-2 overtime win versus No. 2 Duke at the Nike Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. With the score 2-1 Duke, Tymrak received a short corner and moved the ball along the end line. Seeing plenty of bodies in the box, she sent in a cross hoping to get a favorable bounce. The ball did take a bounce in the Gators’ favor, deflecting off the back of a DU defender to score as an own goal.

In the 93rd minute, Tymrak was on the final end of a give-and-go play with fellow senior McKenzie Barney which ended up scoring the golden goal. Tymrak brought the ball down to the top of the box and sent it right to Barney. Barney sent the ball back to Tymrak who had continued her run into the box. The overtime winner scored in the lower left corner, giving Tymrak the second golden goal of her collegiate career, with the first coming in 2010 versus Georgia.

Her goal gave the Gators their first win versus the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) No. 2 team since the 1998 NCAA College Cup semifinal round.

This is the third SEC Offensive Player of the Week honor for Tymrak. She picked up the honor once as a junior and sophomore. Tymrak is an All-SEC first team selection in each of the last two seasons.

Florida finishes its three-match road stretch versus top-15 teams this Friday when it travels to No. 3 Florida State (2-0, 0-0 ACC). Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Seminole Soccer Complex and the match will be available on ESPN3. The match can also be heard on ESPN 850/900, by simulcast on Cox Channel 946 (Gainesville/Ocala) or on with Adam Schick and Matthew Stubbington calling the action.
