Incoming junior striker Adriana Leon scored a hat-trick in Canada's 6-0 win over Argentina in FIFA U-20 World Cup play.

Incoming junior striker Adriana Leon led Canada with three goals in the teamís 6-0 win over Argentina in the opening day of Group C play at the FIFA Under-20 Womenís World Cup in Kobe, Japan.

All of Leonís goals came in the opening half and she shares the tournamentís lead for goals with the U.S.ís Maya Hayes.

Leon scored Canadaís final three goals of the first half. Her scoring flurry started in the 22nd minute with a left-footed shot off Christine Exeterís pass from the six-yard box which arrived just as Leon entered the top of the 18-yard box. Her second goal in the 42nd minute started when the midfield pass from Danica Wu found Leon with space on the left side. She brought the ball into the top of the box to hit a 16-yard right-footed shot to the upper corner of the far post. Leon scored her final goal in injury time, leaping over a sliding defender to strike a right-footed 14-yard shot to beat the on-coming goalkeeper.

Leon transferred to Florida for this season after playing her first two collegiate seasons at Notre Dame. It was Leon who scored the only goal of the 2010 NCAA College Cup championship match to give the Fighting Irish their third national crown with a 1-0 win over Stanford. As a freshman, she was fifth on the ND team with four goals, two assists for 10 points and ranked second among the Irish in 2011 with six goals, five assists for 17 points.

The top two teams in each of the four groups advance to the quarterfinals, which begin Aug. 30. Semifinal play is set for Sept. 4 and the final is Sept. 8.
