UPDATED May 13, 2015:

LONDON –Novlene Williams-Mills captured an Olympic medal on the last day any Gators are scheduled to compete at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Williams-Mills (Jamaica) took home hardware as a member of her country’s relay squads at Olympic Stadium.

Gator Jeff Demps (U.S.A.) also took home hardware with his relay squad, however, it was stripped on May 13, 2015, by the IOC.

Gator letterwinners combined to earn 17 Olympic medals, the second-most ever by a Gator contingent during a single Olympiad, just shy of the all-time mark set by the 24 Gators who compiled 20 medals competing at the 1984 Los Angeles Games, winning 13 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze all in the sport of swimming.

In London, a Gator-record 35 letterwinners combined to win six gold medals, five silver and six bronze in the sports of soccer, swimming, track & field and tennis.

Track & Field

Novlene Williams-Mills (Jamaica) anchored the Jamaican women’s 4x400-meter relay on Saturday, earning a bronze medal with their season’s-best time of 3:20.95. This is Williams-Mills’ second medal, as she won gold with the Jamaican women’s 4x400-meter relay in 2004.

The medals were stripped by the IOC on May 13, 2015: The U.S. men’s 4x100-meter relay earned a silver medal with a new American record of 37.04, tying the previous world record. Jeff Demps (U.S.A.), who ran in the preliminaries of the event but was not selected to the final, will receive a silver medal as well.

Demps torched the track as a part of the Team USA quartet during the first round that ran for the previous American record of 37.38.
