Friday August 10, 2012Men's Basketball SEC Schedule Unveiled

Gainesville, Fla.

The Florida men’s basketball team’s Southeastern Conference schedule for the 2012-13 season was released on Friday by the conference office. It marks the SEC’s first season utilizing an 18-game conference schedule, coinciding with the league’s expansion to 14 teams.

Florida will continue to play a home-and-home annually with Kentucky, while the Gators will also play a home-and-home with four other SEC opponents on a rotating basis. For the 2012-13 season, UF’s four rotating home-and-home opponents will be Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi State and Missouri. The remaining eight games will be split between home and away, with Alabama, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Vanderbilt coming to Gainesville, while the Gators travel to Auburn, LSU, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

During their SEC slate, the Gators will play 11 games on the ESPN family of networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU), four on the SEC Network and one game each on CBS, CSS and FSN. In addition, 14 games will be available for live streaming on ESPN3.com.

After playing five of its final six non-conference games outside of Gainesville, UF plays four of its first six SEC games on the road, giving Florida just three home games over a 12-game span during December and January.

Florida opens its league slate at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center, welcoming rival Georgia for a midweek showdown (Jan. 9). The Gators take to the road a weekend date at LSU (Jan. 12) before meeting SEC newcomers in quick succession with a Thursday game at Texas A&M (Jan. 19) followed by a Saturday afternoon at home against Missouri (Jan. 19)

Another week of road games follows, with a return trip to Georgia (Jan. 23) and a visit to Starkville to take on Mississippi State (Jan. 26). The Gators then get to enjoy friendly surroundings with four of their next five games at the O’Dome. Meetings with South Carolina (Jan. 30) and Ole Miss (Feb. 2) precede a visit to Arkansas (Feb. 5), followed by another pair of home contests against Mississippi State (Feb. 9) and Kentucky (Feb. 12).

UF then embarks on another road stretch with three of its next four in hostile territory, heading to Auburn (Feb. 16) and Missouri (Feb. 19) before returning home to face Arkansas (Feb. 23) and visiting Tennessee (Feb. 26). Florida’s home slate wraps up with contests against Alabama (March 2) and Vanderbilt (March 6) in Gainesville, followed by the regular-season finale at Kentucky (March 9).

The SEC Tournament takes place March 13-17, 2013, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
