Tuesday August 7, 2012Florida Soccer Team No. 21 in NSCAA Preseason Poll

Gainesville, Fla.

Florida opens the 2012 season No. 21 on the NSCAA poll and faces six among the poll's top 25.

The University of Florida soccer team is No. 21 on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire preseason poll. Defending NCAA champion Stanford tops the NSCAA preseason poll. In the 18-year history of the Gator soccer team, this is the 16th consecutive season that Florida appears in the NSCAA preseason poll.

Florida meets six teams ranked in the NSCAA preseason poll during the 2012 regular season – all on the road. The Gators meet three top-eight teams consecutively in the month of August. The first full weekend of play sends the Gators to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the Nike Carolina Classic where UF will meet No. 8 North Carolina on Aug. 24 and No. 2 and 2011 NCAA runner-up Duke on Aug. 26. Then Florida faces another 2011 NCAA College Cup team on Aug. 31 when UF travels to Tallahassee to face No. 4 Florida State.

The opening weekend of Southeastern Conference play will have the Gators playing at No. 25 Auburn on Sept. 16. For Florida’s next road trip, the Gators finish the weekend at No. T14 Texas A&M. That match is slated to air live on ESPNU at 1:30 p.m. ET. 2012 SEC play ends with a road trip to No. 24 South Carolina on Oct. 25.

Four additional Gator opponents received votes in the 2012 NSCAA preseason rankings. Florida opens the season Aug. 17 with a home match versus Miami. That match will air live on SUN Sports. Tennessee comes to Gainesville on Sept. 21. The Gators face Kentucky (Sept. 14) and LSU (Oct. 5) in league road action, with the UF-LSU match scheduled to air on SportsSouth.

During the 2011 season, Florida turned in a record of 17-8 and tied for third in Southeastern Conference regular-season action. The Gators were second in the SEC Tournament and advanced to the 2011 NCAA Second Round.

The Gators will play an exhibition match at No. 12 UCF Saturday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m.
