Florida Slated for Four Appearances on SEC Soccer TV Schedule

The University of Florida soccer team is scheduled for four appearances on the Southeastern Conference television schedule this season, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Florida’s televised matches are split between home and road appearances. The Gators’ first appearance on the SEC television schedule is Sunday, Sept. 23 versus Georgia and that match will air on CSS. The next two SEC television dates are on the road. Florida faces LSU in Baton Rouge, La., on Friday, Oct. 5 (SportsSouth at 7:30 p.m. ET). The road trip continues as UF makes its first trip to College Station, Texas, since 1998 to face new league member Texas A&M on Sunday, Oct. 7 for a match which will air on ESPNU at 1:30p.m. ET.

The Florida-Mississippi State match, set for Sunday, Oct. 14 at the James G. Pressly Stadium, is scheduled to air on CSS at 2 p.m. ET.

Florida and LSU share the league-high number, as each are slated for four televised matches on the SEC schedule.

ESPNU, which is available in more than 73 million households, will also televise the SEC Tournament championship match on Nov. 4 at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Every ESPNU match will be streamed on WatchESPN. SportSouth and CSS matches will also be made available on ESPN3.com.

During the 2011 season, Florida turned in a record of 17-8 and tied for third in Southeastern Conference regular-season action. The Gators were second in the SEC Tournament and advanced to the 2011 NCAA Second Round. Florida will start the 2012 season ranked No. 7 on the College Sports Madness preseason list and the Gators’ profile appears on the site Aug. 12.

A roster which runs 30 deep was at the practice field Wednesday afternoon. The 2012 Florida roster features 19 who are either freshmen or sophomores while the remaining 11 are juniors or seniors. Three of Florida’s 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region and All-Southeastern Conference selections return in 2011 – midfielders Holly King and Erika Tymrak plus defender Kathryn Williamson. Both Tymrak and Williamson were named NSCAA All-Americans as juniors in 2011. Three of the top four Gator goal scorers and point leaders from the 2011 campaign are back this season, including the top two scorers – Tymrak (12 goals, 8 assists, 32 points), Annie Speese (8g, 9a, 25 pts) and the No. 4 scorer Havana Solaun (6g, 6a, 18 pts).

The nine-member incoming class brings experience with state, regional and/or national Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams. Claire Falknor (Dayton, Ohio), Christen Westphal (Brecksville, Ohio) and Brittney Reed (Venice, Fla.) have been part of youth national teams for ODP or U.S. play. Paulina Speckmaier (Miami, Fla.) played with the Venezuelan National Team earlier this year in Under-20 South America World Cup Qualifier action.

Florida travels to Orlando to meet UCF for an exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 11. Soccer will again be the first Florida team to compete this season, as the Gators open the 2012 season on Aug. 17 when Miami comes to Gainesville for a match which will air live on SUN Sports at 7 p.m.
