Azania Stewart and her Great Britain basketball teammates came close to a historic Olympic victory, but couldn’t hold a late lead as Canada earned the 73-65 victory in the second game of preliminary action.

Stewart totaled four points and four rebounds along with one steal and one block in 16 minutes of action for GB, which is making its first ever appearance at the Olympic Games.

GB held the 61-57 lead with 6:10 remaining after trailing for the entire contest. Canada, however, overcame a raucous home crowd for GB, and went on a 13-2 run and took a 70-63 lead with 73 seconds remaining.

Stewart jumped the opening tip and then scored the first field goal of the game.

Stewart and her mates return to the court on Wed., August 1, when Great Britain plays Russia beginning at 11:45 a.m. ET.
