Monday July 23, 2012Gordon Watson Awarded Sportsmanship Award at USTA National Clay Court Championships

Delray Beach, Fla.

Gordon Watson, a redshirt freshman on the Gator tennis team, advanced to the Boys 18 Singles Round of 32 over the weekend at the USTA National Clay Court Championships in Delray Beach. In addition, Watson paired with Brett Clark to advance to the Boys 18 Semifinals of the doubles draw. Watson was awarded the Sportsmanship Award for his performance on and off the court over the weekend.

 

Watson posted a 3-2 record in singles play, highlighted by a win over No. 17 seed Brandon Sutter in the Round of 64. Watson was knocked out of the main draw in the next round by No. 1 seed Jared Hiltzik, who will attend the University of Illinois next year.

 

In doubles, Watson paired with University of North Carolina signee Brett Clark as the No. 7 seed in the Boys 18 draw. They defeated two top-10 seeds before falling to the top-seeded pair of Henry Craig and Hiltzik.
