Thursday July 19, 2012Lendl and Piccio both make cut at North and South
Soon to be senior Florida women’s golfers Isabelle Lendl (Goshen, Conn.) and Mia Piccio (Bacolad City, Phillippines) both advanced to the third round of the 110th North and South Women’s Amateur Tournament yesterday after carding scores of 73 and 74 respectively in the second round of stroke play. Both players put themselves in good position above the Top-60 cut line after also shooting in the 70s in round one.
The original field featured 117 golfers, but was cut down to the Top-60 including ties after two rounds of stroke play. Lendl finished her second round in a tie for 24th place at 5-over, 149, while Piccio was right behind her in a tie for 29th at 6-over, 150. The field will play in one more round of stroke play on Thursday before the field is cut again to the Top-16 for match play.
Both Lendl and Piccio have already begun their third round today and Lendl has come out of the gates quickly, currently 2-under through nine holes. That has moved her up into a tie for 12th place at 3-over, which is above the next cut line. Piccio is still in the hunt, but will have to make a move on the back nine as she is 8-over for the day through 12 holes and currently at 14-over for the tournament.
Those players that make the Top-16 cut will then potentially play four rounds of match play on the famous Pinehurst No. 2 course through the weekend. The champion will be crowned on Sunday.
