Tuesday July 17, 2012Men's Basketball Announces Non-Conference Schedule

Gainesville, Fla.

The Florida men’s basketball team on Tuesday unveiled its 2012-13 non-conference schedule, which will again rank among the toughest in the nation.

The schedule features five games against 2012 NCAA Tournament teams including the previously-announced opener in Jacksonville against Georgetown in the Navy/Marine Corps Classic, as well as contests in Gainesville against Wisconsin and Marquette. Florida will face Florida State in Tallahassee and meet Kansas State in Kansas City. The Gators also have a road rematch against Arizona, an expected preseason top-25 team.

“This is as challenging a non-conference schedule as we’ve had during my tenure at Florida,” said head coach Billy Donovan.  “We’ve made deep runs in the NCAA Tournament each of the last two years and a schedule like this helps expose us to a number of different styles of play that we could see later in the season, and also does a great job preparing us for SEC play.”

The deadline to purchase season tickets is July 27. Fans can order theirs by visiting the ticket page on GatorZone.com or calling the Gator Ticket Office at 352-375-4683 ext. 6800.

Florida’s home opener will come fresh on the heels of the Navy/Marine Corps Classic as the Gators have a Nov. 11 meeting with Alabama State, followed by a Nov. 14 date with Wisconsin, who finished a game shy of the Big Ten title in 2011-12. The Gators then head to Tampa for a neutral-site showdown against defending Sun Belt champion Middle Tennessee, which posted a 27-7 record last season.

Florida’s November slate wraps up with three straight home games, including Savannah State on Nov. 20, in-state foe UCF on Nov. 23 and the previously-announced Marquette clash on Nov. 29 as part of the SEC-Big East Challenge.

UF will spend a large part of December outside of Gainesville, beginning with the annual FSU matchup on Dec. 5 in Tallahassee. The Gators then travel to Arizona following finals week to complete the home-and-home series with the Wildcats on Dec. 15. Florida returns to the O’Connell Center to face Southeastern Louisiana on Dec. 19 before a pair of neutral-site games.

The Gators travel to Kansas City to face Kansas State on Dec. 22 before competing in the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Fla., against Air Force on Dec. 29. UF wraps its non-conference schedule with a trip to New Haven, Conn., to meet Yale on Jan. 6.

Florida hosts an exhibition game against Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 1. Florida’s remaining contests will be announced later this summer as the Southeastern Conference moves to an expanded 18-game schedule.

Game times and broadcast information will be announced at a later date.
