Friday July 13, 2012Florida Lacrosse's LaGrow and McFadden to Play for Team USA in North American Challenge Cup
Florida lacrosse assistant coaches Erica LaGrow and Caitlyn McFadden will compete with the U.S. women’s national team at the North American Challenge Cup this weekend, July 13-15, in Oshawa, Ontario.
LaGrow and McFadden are two of the 24-player roster competing this weekend against Canada and Haudenosaunee at the Civic Recreation Complex in Oshawa. The team will play three games with the Canadian team split into two teams, red and white, for the weekend. The competition will serve as preparation for the 2013 FIL Women’s World Cup that will be held in the same complex next summer.
Both LaGrow and McFadden have been members of the national team since 2007 and were key members of the 2009 FIL World Cup Championship team, while also boasting impressive collegiate resumes.
LaGrow was a four-year starter for North Carolina where she was a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference as a senior and earned ACC academic honors each season. She scored 80 career goals and 15 assists as a midfielder for the Tar Heels. She also picked up 90 ground balls and controlled 84 draws. In each of her four seasons, the Tar Heels advanced to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals. LaGrow is in her fourth season with the Gators.
McFadden is a two-time ACC Player of the Year and 2010 NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player helping Maryland to the national title in the same year. In her senior season, she was named the Tewaaraton Award Winner and Honda Sports Award Winner (and was a finalist for both awards in 2009), the ACC Player of the Year and Tournament MVP (also won both conference awards in 2009), IWLCA National Midfielder of the Year, and the Suzanne Tyler Award winner, which is awarded to the University of Maryland Female Athlete of the Year. She was also a two-time IWLCA First-Team All-American in her final two years as a Terp and IWLCA Second-Team All-American in her sophomore year. McFadden is in her third season with the Gators.
