Thursday July 12, 2012Floyd Named to Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Outland Trophy Preseason Watch Lists
Junior defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa.) has been named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Outland Trophy Preseason Watch Lists, announced by the respective organizations Thursday.
Floyd is one of eight tackles on the Bronko Nagurski Watch List, which is awarded to the nation’s best defensive player by the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club. The Outland Trophy is the best interior lineman in college football as selected by the Football Writers Association of America.
Floyd has now been named to three preseason award watch lists as he was also placed on the Bednarik Award preseason watch list earlier this week.
The Philadelphia, Pa. native has played in 24 career games for the Gators, making 13 starts with 69 career tackles, including 13 tackles for loss. He started the final 11 games at defensive end for the Gators in 2011, registering 46 tackles and tied for a team-high four quarterback hurries. He was a 2010 Coaches’ Freshman All-SEC Team pick.
A player of the week will be selected every week during the season and five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy will be announced on Nov. 15. The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are part of the FWAA All-America Team. The FWAA All-America Committee, after voting input from the entire membership, selects the 25-man team and eventually the three Outland finalists to be named on Nov. 19
