Tuesday July 10, 2012Five Men's Golfers Earn SEC Academic Honors

Gainesville, Fla.

The University of Florida’s men’s golf team had five student-athletes recognized by the Southeastern Conference for their academic achievements this past year. Three golfers were named to the 2012 Spring Academic Honor Roll and two were recognized on the 2011-12 First-Year Academic Honor Roll, announced by league commissioner Mike Silve.

Juniors Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.), Tommy Mou (Bradenton, Fla.), and redshirt-freshman Santiago Gavino (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) all were named to the Spring Academic Honor Roll. This marks the second-consecutive year Mou has earned such accolades.

Freshmen Eric Banks (Truro, Canada) and J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) were both named to the First-Year Academic Honor Roll.

To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.

To be recognized to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must hold the same standards as those on the Academic Honor Roll as a freshman or transfer student.
