Gainesville, Fla.
The University of Florida women’s golf team placed six student-athletes on the 2012 Southeastern Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, announced by league commissioner Mike Slive this week. It also placed one golfer on the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll
Senior Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.), junior Isabelle Lendl (Goshen, Conn.), senior Marika Lendl (Goshen, Conn.), junior Megan Pak (Bradenton, Fla.), junior Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) and senior Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) all received the honor as part of the 92 student-athletes that made the list from the University of Florida for the main academic honor roll. Freshman Camilla Hedberg (Sitges, Spain), who was the lone first-year player on the team, made the most of it by not only making the honor roll, but also being named the conference freshman of the year as well.
Jensen, Watts and Marika Lendl all made the list for the third straight year, while Piccio and Isabelle Lendl are on for the second straight year. Pak makes the list for the first time in her career. With Hedberg making the list, all four returning women’s golf players were named to their respective honor roll lists.
Pak, Piccio, Hedberg and Isabelle Lendl are all returning for their senior season in hopes of helping the Gator women’s golf team improve on its 12th place finish at last year’s NCAA Championships.
The 2012 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2011 summer, fall and 2012 spring terms. Florida shared the league lead in women’s golf with its six recipients.
To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.
