Florida junior Jeremy
Postin (Auburndale, Fla.) won the men’s hammer
throw at the 2012 North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC)
Under-23 Track & Field Championships in Guanajuato, Mexico on Saturday
evening.
Postin won his 10th title of the 2012
season, as he is the reigning SEC Champion in both the men’s weight throw (indoors) and hammer throw (outdoors). The Gator
All-American threw 68.32m/224-1 to claim the first NACAC U-23 throws title in
Florida school history.
Postin was one of five collegians in
the men’s hammer throw at the U.S. Olympic Trials and was the highest-finishing
collegian at 14th. Postin is the Florida
school record holder in the weight throw (21.60m/70-10.50) and the hammer throw
(70.73m/232-1).
Sophomore hurdler Eddie
Lovett (West Palm Beach, Fla.) advanced to the finals of the men’s
110-meter hurdles on Saturday evening, finishing fourth in 13.58. Lovett closes
out a phenomenal sophomore campaign, having competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials
as the youngest competitor in the men’s 110-meter hurdles.
Lovett is an All-American in the 110-meter hurdles, having
finished fifth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in a personal best 13.49 to
move into second all-time at UF and set the men’s 4x400-meter relay up to
clinch the NCAA title.
Next up for the Orange and Blue is the 2012 IAAF World
Junior Track & Field Championships in Barcelona, Spain. The six-day
championship takes place Tuesday-Sunday, July 10-15.
The Gators are sending five representatives for Team USA,
including Gator All-Americans Ciarra Brewer (Union
City, Calif.) and Taylor Burke (Medina,
Ohio). Brewer (triple jump) and Burke (high jump) both claimed SEC Outdoor
titles this spring and are All-Americans in their events.
Incoming freshmen Arman Hall (Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla.), Robin Reynolds (Miami,
Fla.) and Shayla Sanders (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) are
also on Team USA for the trip to Spain, as Hall will compete in the men’s 400
meters and as a member of the men’s 4x400-meter relay. Reynolds advanced to
Barcelona in the women’s long jump, while Sanders is a member of the women’s
4x100-meter relay and an alternate in the women’s 100 and 200 meters.
