2008 Olympic Silver Medalist Kerron Clement will represent the United States at the 2012 Olympic
Games in London later this summer, turning in a photo finish in the men’s
400-meter hurdles to claim the third and final spot on Team USA during the
ninth day of competition at historic Hayward Field.
Clement came on strong at the end of the race, edging out a
falling Bershawn Jackson by five-hundredths of a second, as the three-time NCAA
Champion and six-time NCAA All-American while donning the Orange and Blue
finished in a season’s-best time of 48.89.
Clement, also a four-time World Champion, returned from surgery
in February to make his second Olympic team, having earned a silver medal in
the men’s 400-meter hurdles and a gold medal as a member of the men’s
4x400-meter relay in Beijing.
Five Gator athletes medaled at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials,
including two-event medalist Will Claye (long
jump and triple jump), Clement (400-meter hurdles), Gray Horn (decathlon), Tony
McQuay (400 meters) and Christian
Taylor (triple jump).
Six members of the Orange and Blue have now punched their
tickets to London, including Claye (USA), Clement (USA), Genevieve LaCaze (AUS), McQuay (USA), Kemal Mesic (BOS), Taylor (USA).
