Eugene, Ore.

Former Gator All-American and five-time Southeastern Conference Champion Gray Horn set a new personal best in the men’s decathlon on Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Trials at historic Hayward Field. Horn scored 7,954 points to take home the bronze medal in the event, contested over the course of two days in driving rain, wind and occasional cloud cover.

A new world record was set on Saturday in the 100th anniversary of the men’s decathlon, as Ashton Eaton scored 9,039 points to break Dan O’Brien’s 20-year record. Eaton and Trey Hardee (8,383 points) will represent the United States in London, as Horn’s score did not meet the Olympic “A” standard required to compete at the Olympic Games.

Horn earned personal bests in the pole vault (5.00m/16-4.75), javelin throw (56.31m/184-9) and 1,500 meters (4:33.02) to reach his personal best and medal in Eugene.

Junior Tony McQuay (Riviera Beach, Fla.) earned a spot in the men’s 400 meters final, winning his heat and finishing second overall in 44.84. McQuay’s final will take place at 7:20 p.m. ET and will be part of NBC’s coverage on Sunday evening.

Junior Dwight Barbiasz (Milford, N.H.) nabbed one of the last qualifying spots for the finals of the men’s high jump, clearing 2.15m/7-0.50 to finish a tie for 11th with two other athletes. Typically 12 finalists advance but the officials called for all 13 finalists to advance to Monday night’s final at 8:50 p.m. ET.

Senior Jeff Demps (Winter Garden, Fla.) advanced out of his qualifying round of the men’s 100 meters, finishing second in his heat in 10.18 to advance to tomorrow’s semifinals at 5:30 p.m. ET. If Demps finishes in the top two of his heat or records one of the next two fastest times, he will advance to the finals of the men’s 100 meters at 7:48 p.m. ET on Sunday evening.
