Gainesville, Fla.

The 2012 schedule has the Gators facing 14 teams which advanced to 2011 NCAA action.

The 2012 University of Florida soccer team’s schedule is a challenging slate, as 14 of the team’s 19 opponents advanced to last season’s NCAA Championship field.

“This is a challenging schedule, no question,” UF Head Coach Becky Burleigh said. “That is exactly what we want as we look to prepare for the post-season. The Southeastern Conference schedule is always tough. The addition of two quality opponents in Missouri and Texas A&M will make this conference even stronger – there are absolutely no easy passes in this league.”

Florida also faced a program-record 14 opponents that advanced to the previous season’s NCAA field in 2002.

This is the 14th time in the program’s 18-year history that the Gators face at least one team from the previous year’s NCAA College Cup.

The season begins with 10 consecutive matches versus teams which appeared in the 2011 NCAA field, including facing a pair of 2011 NCAA College Cup teams in consecutive road matches. Florida faces four straight Atlantic Coast Conference teams to open the season. For the fourth consecutive year, Florida meets Miami for the first match of the season and the 2012 event is set for Aug. 17 at the James G. Pressly Stadium. The Gators then head to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the Carolina Nike Classic where the team faces North Carolina on Aug. 24 and 2011 NCAA College Cup runner-up Duke on Aug. 26. Florida then finishes the opening month of the season facing 2011 NCAA College Cup semifinalist Florida State in Tallahassee on Aug. 31.

Florida International comes to Gainesville on Sept. 2 and UF then plays host to New Mexico on Sept. 9. It is the first meeting between UF and UNM.

The expanded Southeastern Conference season begins Sept. 14 at Kentucky followed by a match at defending SEC Tournament champion Auburn on Sept. 16. A four-match home stand begins with Tennessee on Sept. 21, followed by Georgia (Sept. 23), Mississippi (Sept. 28) and Arkansas (Sept. 30). The next weekend, Florida faces LSU in Baton Rouge, La., on Oct. 5 and then makes its first trip to College Station, Texas, since 1998 to face new SEC member Texas A&M on Oct. 7.

Final regular-season home action brings Missouri to Pressly Stadium on Oct. 12 for its first visit as a SEC member. Home action concludes on Oct. 14 versus Mississippi State.

The Gators finish the 2012 regular season with three consecutive road matches – at Alabama (Oct. 19), at Vanderbilt (Oct. 21) and at defending SEC champion South Carolina on Oct. 25.

The 2012 SEC Tournament, set for Oct. 31-Nov. 4, makes its sixth consecutive appearance in Orange Beach, Ala. The NCAA Championships’ 64-team field will be announced on Nov. 5.

During the 2011 season, Florida turned in a record of 17-8 and tied for third in SEC regular-season action. The Gators were second in the SEC Tournament and advanced to the 2011 NCAA Second Round.
