Incoming freshman Bridget Sloan advances to the U.S. Olympic Trials

Incoming University of Florida freshman Bridget Sloan finished 10th overall after the final day of senior competition at the 2012 Visa Gymnastics Championships in front of a Chaifetz Arena of 9,793. She will be among 15 who advance to the U.S. Olympic Trials which begin at the end of this month.

Sloan’s score of 56.15 Sunday was added to her total of 56.250 in Friday’s opening day to place her 10th with a total of 112.40. Her performance this weekend earned Sloan her sixth consecutive spot on the U.S. Senior National Team. Jordyn Wieber of DeWitt, Mich., claimed her second consecutive Visa Championships all-around title with her total of 121.90.

The 15 members of the U.S. Senior Women’s team and the competitors for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials are: Wieber; Gabrielle Douglas; Alexandra Raisman; Kyla Ross, Elizabeth Price, Sarah Finnegan, Sabrina Vega, Kennedy Baker, Brenna Dowell, Sloan, McKayla Maroney, Alicia Sacramone, Rebecca Bross, Anna Li and Nastia Liukin of Parker, Texas/WOGA.

Both days of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials from San Jose, Calif., can be seen live on NBC Sports Network - Friday, June 29 – 9-11 p.m. ET and Sunday July 1 - 9-11 p.m. ET.

Sloan competed in her first all-around since 2009 this weekend, as she was unable to compete in all four events since 2009 due to ankle and shoulder injuries. Sloan of Pittsboro, Ind./Sharp's Gymnastics, a member of the silver medal-winning 2008 Olympic team and the 2009 World Championships all-around champion, finished sixth overall in the uneven bars (30.05), T15th in balance beam (27.00) and T13th on floor exercise (27.35) this weekend.

Event champions include Sacramone (vault – 30.025), Douglas (uneven bars – 31.30), Raisman (balance beam – 30.65 and floor exercise – 31.25).

Sloan signed with Florida in April of 2011 and deferred her enrollment at Florida until the fall of 2012 as she attempts to earn her second consecutive spot on the U.S. Olympic team. She has represented the U.S. National Team in 15 international competitions, including three World Championship teams (2010, 2009 and 2007, the first as a reserve athlete). In 2008 at age 16, Sloan was the youngest member of the silver-medal winning U.S. Olympic team. A year later, she won gold by taking the top spot in the all-around competition at the 2009 World Championships. She’s claimed six Visa Championship medals (gold for 2009 all-around, uneven bars and floor; silver for 2007 floor; bronze for 2008 bars and 2006 beam).
