Gainesville, Fla.

Junior right-hander Hudson Randall (Atlanta, Ga.) and senior outfielder Daniel Pigott (Ormond Beach, Fla.) were chosen on Tuesday afternoon in the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft, giving head coach Kevin O’Sullivan’s club a total of eight selections as the three-day event is currently through 10 of 40 total rounds. The school record of 11 picks was set last season.

Taken in the seventh round at No. 244 by the Detroit Tigers, Randall is 8-2 with a 2.83 earned run average this season. The righty has registered 57 strikeouts and issued 10 walks over 86 innings spanning 14 starts. Opponents are hitting just .239 against him and he has posted victories over No. 8 Miami (Fla.), No. 17 Arkansas, No. 3 Kentucky, No. 25 Mississippi State and No. 24 Georgia. Randall also went the distance in a 6-0, three-hit shutout of Auburn on May 17.

As a sophomore, Randall was chosen as an Honorable Mention All-American by College Baseball Insider and was a quarterfinalist for the Pitcher of the Year Award, earning second-team All-South Region and second-team All-SEC recognition. He turned in an 11-3 record and ranked fifth in the SEC with a 2.17 ERA. Randall tied for the team lead with 19 starts, the most by a Gator pitcher since 2005. The righty had 73 strikeouts and 13 walks in a team-high 124.1 innings and held opponents to a .227 batting average. Over 10 SEC starts, Randall went 6-3 with a 3.00 ERA and tossed complete games against South Carolina and Tennessee. He was 3-0 with a 1.49 ERA in five postseason starts, including 2-0 with a 1.91 ERA in four NCAA Tournament games in which he had 24 strikeouts and issued five walks.

In his freshman year in 2010, Randall was named to the Baseball America, Louisville Slugger, NCBWA and Yahoo! Sports Freshman All-American teams and was a member of the SEC’s All-Freshman squad and the league’s Freshman Academic Honor Roll. He led the Gators with 17 starts and turned in an 8-4 mark with a 3.24 ERA in 20 appearances covering 97.1 innings, finishing second on the club with 69 strikeouts.

Pigott was picked in the ninth round by the Cincinnati Reds at No. 292. UF’s starting center fielder leads the Orange and Blue with a .321 average and is 11-of-16 on stolen bases. He has scored 46 runs, tallied 38 RBI, poked 13 doubles and has career highs in walks (22) and homers (7). In SEC play, Pigott hit .309 with 22 runs, 19 RBI and six round-trippers.

Pigott enjoyed a tremendous junior season, ranking second on the club in both batting average (.331) and doubles (21). He also boasted a then-career-high in runs (44), totaled 40 RBI and was a team-best 15-for-19 on the basepaths. Pigott totaled 23 multiple-hit games and 10 multiple-RBI outings, batted .389 (21-for-54) with 16 runs and 10 RBI in Florida’s 16 postseason games and was 14-for-42 (.333) in 11 NCAA contests. Pigott delivered a .500 (5-for-10) performance in the Gainesville Super Regional, highlighted by a pair of homers in the decisive game three against Mississippi State. He went a perfect 3-for-3 in the finale, with a two-run homer in the second and a solo shot in the eighth. In addition, he was chosen to the Gainesville Regional All-Tourney Team with a .357 (5-for-14) average, four RBI and three runs. Pigott was tabbed the Most Valuable Player of the SEC Tourney after going 7-for-12 (.583) in four games with six runs and six stolen bases in six attempts in helping the Gators to their first crown in 20 years..
